Definitive Technology Delivers Dolby Atmos with A60 Speaker Module

By Rachel Cericola

We've heard a lot of buzz this week about Dolby Atmos. Several manufacturers made announcements about Dolby Atmos-enhanced products just a few days ago. However, Definitive Technology has waited for some of that smoke to clear to make its own audio announcement. The company is making plans to launch the A60 Elevation Speaker Module late in the summer.

The A60 was designed as an add-on to the company's BP-8060ST floor-standing speaker. It literally just clips on to the top and wires into any Dolby Atmos-enabled AV receiver. It even includes a wire management guide, to keep your speaker setup nice and clean.

Once attached, the module uses a channel for overhead positioning of sonic images and creating multi-dimensional, Dolby Atmos sound from that speaker -- and from pretty much anywhere in the room.

Dolby Atmos can deliver sound from just about every direction, including overhead. The sound reflects off of the ceiling to make it sound like helicopters or birds are actually flying above.

"Dolby Atmos is a groundbreaking achievement in home theater," said Joel Sietsema, director of brand management for Definitive Technology. "Integrating this technology in our existing speakers is just one of the ways we are advancing the next-generation of the home theater entertainment experience."

Definitive Technology plans to start shipping the A60 Elevation Speaker Module in August, with an MSRP of $499 per pair.
