David Lynch's Twin Peaks is Getting a 10-Disc Blu-ray Set

By Rachel Cericola

Still pining for Laura Palmer? Get ready to dissect her death and the rest of David Lynch's Twin Peaks in a whole new way -- in high-def! CBS and Paramount just announced plans to put out the 10-disc Blu-ray set, Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery.

Coming on July 29, the box set will come packing everything a fan could ever want. Well, there probably will be some gripes (there always is!), but this 10-disc set will have every episode of the series, including both the U.S. and international versions of pilot, as well as the theatrical feature Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, and 90 minutes of highly sought after deleted and alternate scenes from the film.

Beside the high-def image, the Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery will also have a 7.1 DTS-HS Master Audio track.

If that's not enough, fans will absolutely appreciate the newly transferred Log Lady introductions for each episode, which were transferred from 16mm film negative. There's also "Between Two Worlds," a brand new two-part featurette with Lynch interviewing the actors who portrayed the Palmer family (Leland, Sarah and daughter Laura) -- both in and out of character. The characters will discuss their current existence in this life and the next, which is then followed by a chat with the actors.

Also worth noting is that this set's version of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me was created from a 4K scan of the original negative -- and that process was both directed and edited by Lynch exclusively for this release. It also includes more than 30 deleted/alternate scenes from the film, designed as an epilogue to give fans a glimpse beyond the cliffhanger finale of the TV series.

Other features include the retrospective documentary "Moving Through Time: Fire Walk With Me Memories," newly discovered deleted scenes and outtakes from the TV series, and three Twin Peaks photo galleries with over 130 images from Lynch's personal collection. The set also has 10 new vignettes titled, "Atmospherics." Each one has a montage of dialogue and video (including some outtakes) that appear as both menu backgrounds and as their own textless experience to further immerse fans in the mysterious world of Twin Peaks.

Of course, the set will also include tons of previously released material, some of which has been remastered. This includes the four-part documentary "Secrets From Another Place: Creating Twin Peaks" and an extended version of the Gold Box featurette "A Slice of Lynch."

"During the last days in the life of Laura Palmer many things happened, which have never been seen before," said Lynch. "They're here now alongside the new transfer of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me and Twin Peaks, the television series."

If you're new to the show, know that Twin Peaks follows the inhabitants of a northwestern town after homecoming queen Laura Palmer is found murdered. Being that it's a David Lynch effort, you can imagine that all sorts of weirdness will follow. The cult classic also has a great cast, including Kyle MacLachlan, Michael Ontkean, Sheryl Lee, Sherilyn Fenn, Lara Flynn Boyle, Mädchen Amick, Dana Ashbrook, Richard Beymer, Ray Wise, Peggy Lipton and Warren Frost.

After the series ended, Lynch released the prequel, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, which focuses on the seven days leading up to Laura Palmer's death. Besides some of the series regulars, the film also features Kiefer Sutherland, David Bowie, Chris Isaak and Harry Dean Stanton.

The Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery box set will be released on July 29, with an MSRP of $109.99.
