Creative ZiiSound T6 Brings 5.1 Back to the Desktop

By Chris Chiarella

Creative Technology is launching their Creative ZiiSound T6, a compact new speaker suite that combines the quality of wireless connectivity with the immersive enjoyment of surround sound. This versatile little system marks a return to multichannel support while still embracing the simple, small-footprint approach that multimedia enthusiasts have clearly favored over the past several years.

ZiiSound T6 is part of Creative's well-received Pure Wireless speaker family, compatible with a wide range of Bluetooth stereo sources, including PCs, Macs, tablets, laptops and even netbooks, in addition to the iPhone, iPad and select iPods. Pairing the speakers to a device is quick and easy, and the high-performance apt-X codec assures low latency in wireless configurations.

It is also positioned as the new flagship product in the ZiiSound lineup, but going a step further with support for 5.1-channel content when we use a wired USB connection. (A 5.1 software decoder is required for this application.) The top drivers on the full-bandwidth satellite speakers are swivel-mounted, for rear-channel effects which can take advantage of wall reflectivity, or they can be angled for an enhanced stereo effect. The satellites also feature audiophile-grade aluminum drivers.

The small but powerful Creative SLAM three-driver subwoofer (left-/right-/front-firing) is particularly impressive, promising deep, accurate bass with palpable LFE for movies, music and games. The sound is allegedly big enough to fill a small living room, and certainly sufficiently mighty for any desktop setup. The speakers are controlled by either the wired pod or the IR remote.

The T6 arrives bundled with the BT-D1 Bluetooth USB transmitter (a $39.99 value) to allow it to work with even more digital sources, and for a limited time, the optional BT-D5 iPod/iPhone/iPad Bluetooth transmitter (also worth $39.99) will also be included at no additional charge. The ZiiSound T6 retails for $399.99.
