Bose Promises Big Sound from Companion 20 Computer Speakers

By Rachel Cericola

Between your hard drive and the Internet, there are endless TV shows, movies and music options available at your fingertips. What probably isn't so great is the audio system that you have to go with that computer, tablet, or even your smartphone. Bose wants to give all of those web-enabled gadgets a much needed upgrade with the newly announced Bose Companion 20 Multimedia Speaker System.

Boasting a new driver, as well as proprietary electronics and amplification, the Companion 20 is a simple, two-piece speaker setup. Despite the compact package, Bose claims that this small set can produce lifelike sound, all without the need for a separate subwoofer.

"Millions of consumers have computers in the home today, and they're used for both work and play," said Lino Pucci, Bose's product line manager for computer speakers. "The Companion 20 system is sleek and unobtrusive, but its size doesn't compromise the audio quality or power it delivers. It's ideal for anyone whose computer is the go-to device in the house -- for listening to their favorite stations on Pandora, or enjoying their games, videos or iTunes playlist."

Other features packed inside the 3.5-by-4.375-inch cabinets include Bose TrueSpace stereo digital signal processing, active electronic equalization, and a headphone jack.

Available exclusively in silver, the Bose Companion 20 multimedia speaker system is now available. The company has listed the set with an MSRP of $249.
