Bang and Olufsen Unveils Flagship H8 Bluetooth Wireless Headphones for $499

By Rachel Cericola

Bang & Olufsen has been making gorgeous products for years. Well, now they are letting you take those bragging rights wherever you need to roam, with the BeoPlay H8.

The BeoPlay H8 is B&O's very first pair of wireless headphones. The product features an aluminum touch interface, active noise cancellation, and up to 16 hours of battery life while using Bluetooth (or 35 with ANC).

At 255 grams, these on-ear headphones are made for traveling light. Not only can you stream audio without being tethered, but the set even has easy-to-use controls right on the ear cup. Just swipe, tap and rotate your finger to adjust the volume, flip through tracks or take a call. There's also an option to turn the Active Noise Cancellation off, in order to preserve battery life.

According to our editor, Chris Boylan, those controls make this model quite interesting. "There's a circular groove in the right earpiece along with a sort of built-in swipe pad that enables you to control music playback and volume with just one finger," he says. "Sound quality was very good too, particularly for a wireless noise-cancelling headphone."

Of course, the set also looks insanely cool, which is something we've come to expect from the B&O design team. Besides the anodized aluminum, the BeoPlay H8 has cowhide leather and smooth lambskin. However, this set isn't just another pretty product. It packs in 40mm drivers, a frequency response of 20 to 22kHz, 33ohms impedance (in passive mode), and a sensitivity rating of 99dB (@ 1kHz/1mW in passive mode).

Also worth mentioning is that the BeoPlay H8 comes with a standard headphone cord, for those times when you don't want noise cancelling (never!) or the internal battery is depleted (definite possibility).

"With BeoPlay H8, we have taken decades of craftsmanship and innovation and distilled that into one truly amazing product that highlights the B&O Play virtues," says Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, head of B&O Play. "It is technologically advanced featuring Active Noise Cancellation, Bluetooth 4.0 and an aluminum touch interface never seen before. Combined with the acclaimed Bang & Olufsen Signature Sound, premium materials and the low weight, it is not just another headphone on the market; it is simply one the best product of its kind."
