Bang & Olufsen Celebrates 90th Birthday with $39K BeoLab 90 Speaker

By Rachel Cericola

Bang & Olufsen sure knows how to party. The company is celebrating its 90th year with the newly announced BeoLab 90 loudspeaker.

The Danish manufacturer is no stranger to gorgeous products, but the BeoLab 90 is one magnificent beast. Besides its obvious good looks, each BeoLab 90 packs in 18 speaker drivers, as well as 14 channels of the latest generation ICEpower amplifiers and four Class D amps. According to Bang & Olufsen, those amps can crank out up to 8,200 watts per speaker.

It also features B&O's Active Room Compensation technology, which can tweak the sound of the speaker based on your room and whatever is in it. It also has something called Beam Width Control, so you can adjust the width of the sound beam and pick your own sweet spot or fill up the entire room with audio goodness. There's even Beam Direction Control, so you can steer that sound radiation in five different directions. Oh, and you can control all of those things via one button on your smartphone.

And in case you haven't noticed, it's one cool looking speaker. The BeoLab 90 has a 360-degree design that's based on rock-solid aluminium. Other aesthetic features include a black fabric cover and a curved wooden base.

"BeoLab 90 is the future of sound. This intelligent loudspeaker measures the acoustical effects of its surroundings and directs superb sound to your favorite listening position," says the company's CEO Tue Manton. "You do not have to be close to the speaker or even in front of it to get an excellent sound experience."

Get ready to party -- and to spend a ton of money while doing so. Bang & Olufsen plans to start selling the BeoLab 90 at stores on November 17th, 2015, which just happens to be the company's 90th birthday. The speakers will be sold individually, priced at $38,995 each.
