Atlantic Technology Makes Any Speakers Wireless with WA-5030 Receiver/Amp

By Enid Burns

Atlantic Technology is releasing the WA-5030 30-watt amplified wireless audio system. The unit wirelessly connects an audio source, such as a PC or Mac computer, or even the output of a home theater receiver, to standard speakers within a 300-foot range.  You can use it to create multi-room wireless music systems or simply to extend the rear channels of your surround sound system to the back of your room without having to run speaker wires back there.

The WA-5030 wireless transmitter/amplifier system can be sourced from any RCA analog audio line outputs. Atlantic Technology paired the WA-5030 with a three-zone WA-50-t wireless transmitter. The transmitter connects to an audio source for streaming. While it can work for typical home theater audio sources such as a Blu-ray player, CD player or receiver, it can also connect directly to a Mac or PC via a USB connection. The WA-5030 is set up using a plug-and-play system.

Because it includes a standard audio power amplifier, the WA-5030 can cork with virtually any speakers of your choosing, so you're not locked into a certain brand or model of speakers.  The WA-5030 transmits audio to one or more discrete zones of the home or office for listening. Both the transmitter and receiver have a three-position switch to accommodate up to three independent WA-5030 systems in close proximity to each other. This feature lends itself to multiple users in a home or commercial setting where different music or audio sources are desired in multiple rooms.

With the Atlantic Technology WA-5030, users can broadcast lossless, uncompressed CD-quality digital audio with a 48 kHz sampling rate using the 2.4 GHz radio band. A digital-to-analog converter and 30-watt-per-channel stereo power amplifier send the signal wirelessly to the speakers. Streaming is said to be free from data drop issues. Time delay is limited to a maximum of 10ms if listening within a range of between 150 and 300 feet, though some structures such as buildings and walls may hinder reception.

An infrared remote lets you go even more wireless. With the remote users can control volume, mute, and choose zones to play audio. The remote can also be used to drive speakers in the bi-amp mode.

The Atlantic Technology WA-5030 Powered Wireless Audio System comes with a transmitter, receiver, remote control, USB cable and RCA input cables. The complete system sells for $399. If multiple wireless transmitters are required (to set up multiple pairs of wireless speakers), additional WA-5030-r receiver/amp modules sell for $199 each.
