Artison Debuts Super-Small Nano Subwoofer on Kickstarter

By Rachel Cericola

Over the years, we've seen a lot of subwoofers. They're sort of hard to miss. Typically, they make themselves known by supplying the bass needed to put boom into your room -- as well as movies, TV shows, sporting events and whatever other audio you like to crank out. However, they also make themselves known by just parking themselves on the floor of your living and/or home theater room.

Well, now Artison has developed a little something that should take up less space. That would be the RCC Nano 1, a small subwoofer that promises to rival its bigger audio brothers and cousins.

Measuring a mere 7.5-by-8-by-9 inches (including the feet and grilles), the RCC Nano 1 is Artison's first freestanding subwoofer in over 10 years. That tiny enclosure packs in a 300-watt amp, as well as two active 6.5-inch long throw aluminum drivers. Other features include 6061 T6 aluminum and a reactance cancelling configuration (vibration-free) design.

Artison is currently creating buzz for the RCC Nano 1 with a Kickstarter campaign, which allows users to score the sub for the early-bird price of $399.

"We opted for a Kickstarter campaign because we felt that it was a great way to get audio fans, our customers, involved in the development of this important new subwoofer," said Cary Christie, Artison's founder and chief designer. "Plus they'll get a chance to be among the first to own the Nano 1, and at a significant discount."

Once the campaign ends on Monday, December 1, 2014, Artison plans to start shipping the RCC Nano 1 in January 2015, with an MSRP of $899. A compatible wireless transmitter will also be available for $99.
