It's Here! Amazon Prime Day (7/15/15) Offers Black Friday Style Deals and Giveaways

By Rachel Cericola

Other than the retailers themselves, we can't think of too many people who wish Black Friday would come more than once a year. There are crowds, fights, trampling and overall mayhem. Of course, the deals sometimes make it worth the effort. However, if you take the effort, jostling and long lines out of the equation, you have something kind of wonderful -- something known as Amazon Prime Day.

Here's a direct link: Amazon Prime Day - July 15, 2015

Amazon is promising that Prime Day will feature Black Friday-style savings, but better and more of them. It's better because you don't have to go anywhere to score deals and you don't have to wait either. Amazon Prime Day is today, Wednesday, July 15.

The whole "holiday" is a global shopping event that was created to celebrate Amazon's 20th birthday. It's exclusive for Amazon Prime members, so if you aren't paying $99 a year to get free 2-day shipping and unlimited Amazon Instant Video streaming, this will just be one more benefit thing that you'll miss out on. Of course, you can always sign up for a one-month free trial of Prime, and cancel after 30 days if you find it doesn't meet your needs.

The deals began this morning just after midnight Pacific-time, and are expected to keep coming every 10 minutes until 11:59:59 PM. There will be seven different Deals of the Day, as well as plenty of Lightning Deals, and all with unlimited, free shipping for Prime members.

In addition to all of the bargains, Prime Day will also feature different giveaways. One involves Prime Music, which launched over a year ago and has over a million songs and hundreds of radio stations to date. Amazon Prime customers get free access to this library as part of their Prime membership. Just listen to any song on Prime Music on July 15, and you'll be automatically entered to win an Amazon gift card ranging anywhere from $1,000 to $25,000. That's enough for one heck of an online shopping spree.

Amazon Prime membership perks include:

  • Free 2-day shipping on millions of items (or a $1 digital media credit if you opt for free no-rush shipping instead)
  • Unlimited streaming of select movies and TV titles in Amazon Prime video
  • Unlimited music streaming in Amazon Prime Music
  • Access to the Kindle Lending Library (rent a Kindle book a month for free)
  • Free unlimited storage for your photos in Amazon Prime Photo

Amazon Prime Day is exclusive to Prime members in the U.S., the UK, Spain, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada and Austria. If you're not a Prime member, you can sign up for a 30-day free trial now and still get access to the event. After the initial period, expect to pay $99 per year. If you're currently a Prime member, get ready for deals to start flying at midnight on Wednesday, July 15, 2015.
