Amazon Offers Free Digital Copy with Blu-ray, DVD Purchases

By Rachel Cericola

Many Blu-ray discs come packaged with a digital copy of the movie. This allows you to buy the movie once and watch it on your computer or portable device in addition to your disc player at home or on the road.  However, there are still plenty of movies that don't include that perk, so Amazon is offering it all on their own. How sweet!

The online retailer just announced plans to offer over 10,000 titles, as part of its Disc+ On Demand feature -- and they are all "free." Well, you can't get all 10,000 at once, unless you are making a pretty big order and yes, you have to buy something to get something. The idea is that when you purchase select DVD and Blu-ray discs from Amazon, you'll get to start watching your selection online immediately at no additional charge, all while you are waiting for the hard copy to arrive in the mail.

Even better, it looks like Amazon is having a big sale on some of the titles available for instant viewing. Here are a few of our favorites:

Customers will have 30 days to watch the streaming version or to download the digital version to their PC or Mac, once that purchase is made. You can choose to watch it instantly in any web browser or on any Amazon VOD-compatible device such as Blu-ray players and TVs from Panasonic, Sony and Samsung (among others).  If you prefer to take the movie with you while you're "off the grid," then you can download it to a PC or Mac to view later.
